Chemours is seeking a(n) Head of Policy and Advocacy TSS (Thermal & Specialized Solutions) to join our growing Regulatory Advocacy organization in Europe.

This position will report directly to the Global Marketing, Advocacy and New Business Development Director and will be preferably based in Belgium or from a location where frequent travel to Brussel is easy.


The TSS organization works collaboratively across the business and functions in order to advance and protect TSS products and reputation.

The Head of Policy and Advocacy will lead the development of the EU business regulatory advocacy strategy for TSS and is responsible for its execution.

Due to the nature of the role, Belgium (or the Netherlands) is a preferred location for an easy access to Brussels.

Locations in Germany from where you can still travel to Brussels are also an option.


The position will:


Develop and execute effective regulatory advocacy strategies and tactics consistent with overall business strategy specific to management of TSS's scope within EU REACH regulatory frameworks/restrictions while advancing opportunities to transition to lower GWP solutions within the EU Climate Frameworks (F-Gas, MAC directive, EU Green Deal).


  • Lead all TSS European regulatory advocacy activities. Coach and develop direct and indirect team members.
  • Drive all TSS public policy advocacy in the European Union using regulatory thought leadership on energy, climate change, decarbonization, electrification, trade, sustainability, and other issues, with input and collaboration from business partners and relevant functions, e.g., Sustainability. Align policy initiatives and activities among Chemours colleagues in the EU, when advantageous.
  • Provide strategic counsel and analysis. Monitor, analyze and provide counsel on developments in the European legislative, regulatory, political and economic environment and advise management on how these trends may impact TSS's business interests.
  • Interact with and educate EUwide and member state specific policy and regulatory agencies, relevant trade and industry associations and other key stakeholders in order to positively influence emerging regulations.
  • Build a strong network of external stakeholders, such as relevant EU and national policymakers, and key influencers, including industry groups and major value chain players
  • Lead advocacy and stakeholder engagement to influence policy and/or business issues
  • Lead interaction with European Union government officials for the business.
  • Oversee participation in associations and bodies important to TSS with the goal of influencing legislation, standards and policies, in close coordination internal TSS stakeholders.
  • Regularly participate in, and represent regulatory advocacy perspective at, internal meetings.
  • Support integrity culture in TSS and model highest standards of behaviour in interactions with government and policy stakeholders.

Your background:
years of experience in European government relations, public affairs, or similar roles. Private sector experience required.

  • Indepth knowledge of global issues (e

g:
energy, trade, and climate change) and international affairs; good understanding of business and economics, and the policy and law-making process.

  • Proven track record of successful regulatory strategy or influence in regulation of chemical substances (fluorochemistry preferred)
  • Solutions oriented mindset, structured, gets things done and on time.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communications and advocacy skills to influence, negotiate and persuade.
  • Experience managing experienced professionals and external consultants; team mindset.
  • Interested in the business and driven by contributing to company success. Strong business acumen.
  • Strong inner drive to make a difference and contribute.
  • Fluent English: additional European languages are a plus.
  • University degree, preferably master's level, MBA a plus.

The following is preferred for this role:

  • Awareness of societal and regulatory trends for fluorochemistry
  • Awareness of societal and regulatory trends for fluorochemicals and experience in HVAC Industry or Trade
  • Previous experience within EU regulatory agency a plus
  • Previous leadership role in trade association(s)
