This dual product/project focused, developing leadership position leads the overall technical coordination of complex product development activities and is accountable for the project management of technical risk and quality of the product up to and including early production.

This position integrates the requirements of the many interdisciplinary and cross functional stakeholders of product development, often involving difficult decisions that impact cost and delivery without sacrifice to the quality expectations of the value package profile.


Obtains input and negotiates with program leadership, customers, customer teams, product engineers or technology teams to deliver robust prototype and production designs, technical risk mitigation plans, and coordinated deliverables of new or current product change activity.

Other important stakeholders of this role include preferred partner suppliers, manufacturing, purchasing, technical leadership and marketing teams.


Makes decisions in the areas of design and project risk trade-offs that impact program cost or delivery without sacrifice of quality expectations.


Main focus will include working in business processes of Product Preceding Technology (PPT), Value Package Introduction (VPI) or Current Product Support (CPS) and using tools such as Product Development Six Sigma (PDSS), iDFMEA, Voice of the Customer and Voice of Other Stakeholders (VOC/VOX), Integrity, MS Office Suite, New Unique and Difficult (NUD) and project risk 9-box and Value Package Introduction - Project Portfolio Management (VPI-PPM), all required to support high quality decision making.

Provides problem resolution leadership for complex systems with a high degree of ambiguity and often global business impact.


Leads the development and improvement of work processes and systems across function(s) within a global business unit or managing improvement across business units.

Coordinates and directs work of technical project teams, up to and including direct management of small to mid-sized teams.


Operates as the recognized multi-competency specialist or expert in a discipline or product area across a site or global business unit with responsibility for developing local talent (direct or indirect).

Coaches and mentors other engineers, project managers and cross-functional team members.

May also include academic or industry collaboration in a competency or discipline area.

Product Development Execution, Monitoring and Control - Plan, schedule, coordinate and execute activities involving the development of products to meet the hierarchy of requirements and technical profile accordingly; Monitor and communicate across functional boundaries to meet project resource and quality expectations; Ensure product capabilities meet or exceed expectations and take mitigation actions when project risks are higher than expected; Understand the complete product lifecycle process and stakeholders.


Product Functional Modeling, Simulation, and Analysis - Predict product capability relative to system, subsystem, and/or part-level requirements and influence product design decisions by using and/or interpreting calculation tools and methods.


Product Platform Development - Integrate all market and key customer needs for a given product platform into a comprehensive and holistic development plan; Validate platform functionality for all planned and approved architecture variants within the scope of market use, rather than the boundaries of any individual customer within the target use market.


Systems Requirements Engineering - utilizing appropriate methods and tools to translate stakeholder needs into verifiable requirements for development and design; Determination of acceptance criteria involving the system through analysis, assignment and consultation; Track the status of requirements throughout the system lifecycle; Assess the impact of changes in system requirements on project scope, schedule and resources; Create and maintain information associated with related artifacts.
