High Five For Transformation From Within
Real transformation occurs when we see the truth in a given situation. We are not always able to manage that process well all by ourselves. It helps to walk the journey with a trusted professional. Someone who looks at our blind spots from a higher perspective. A person that has the expertise, the honesty and the courage to confront ourselves with helpful insights which we need to integrate within ourselves to move forward.
The following five keys will benefit transformation for the stakeholders involved in the growth process:
Key 1: Discover the issue behind the issue
A person can come to a shift coach with an issue. Most of the time this is not the root cause of the unbalanced situation. The real reason for the challenge lies deeper. Listen without judging to what is being told between the lines.
Key 2: Create enough space for vulnerability
Expressing deeper emotions is not everyone's cup of tea. Some of us have not learned to apply this from an early age. Be patient enough to let the coachee speak his or her truth. Sharing emotions is sacred. Handle it with care.
Key 3: Coach and coachee are not the same
Every person lives his or her own experiences. We live in a world of infinite perspectives. Respect the fact that each person brings a new perspective to the coaching practice. Start from scratch with every coachee. It is not our story.
Key 4: Eliminate own expectations
Never force a particular outcome to be produced other than to be a true support for your coachee. Expectations steer the process in a direction which does not serve the highest good of the coachee. Be fully present with the coachee.
Key 5: Be as human as possible
We are all humans. Do not judge. We are going through a process of growth. The person who is willing to work on inner development deserves respect and grace. The coach serves to guide others to become a better version of themselves.
With these five keys let me wish every shift coach professional and each one of his or her coachees a shared journey characterised by fulfillment and meaning. Shift coaching always brings double gain. When we help someone else to see the light at the end of the tunnel, we have become a better person as well.
We deserve the very best in life. Let us enjoy every step within the transformational process!

I agree and appreciate your input. You nailed one of my weaknesses that is carry over from the construction years. Follow up is something that i have to schedule, focus and get really organized around. In construction ego took care of follow up. Ego doesn't go over well in the professional world. My wife will let me know when i have slipped back into "construction mode" she is a saint. I just have to hide the two by fours. So i have a great resource at my side for assisting in followup. Thank you for your support of my success Sara Jacobovici.

Hi Harvey Lloyd I don't mean to overstep my comment box boundaries, but if I am "hearing" correctly, it sounds familiar, as in "been there, done that'. I'd like to emphasise the importance of follow-up during each step of the process; what's been said and what's been done in response, updates, synopsis of what has been "heard" and finally, at the end of the process, what has been incorporated as a result of it all. Wishing you all the success.

20 years in construction, i was a hardened leader battle ready. Lost my appetite for that. Your post challenged me to continue my way of thinking that has been successful (Not Construction training). Sometimes we just need to hear someone else say it. You did. Have a wonderful day.
